IMMEX Student Authors Shine in Sacramento
On March 11, The IMMEX Project hosted a booth at the annual Student Techology
Showcase, sponsored by the California State Department of Education. For
the second year in a row, IMMEX was invited to Sacramento to share with over a
thousand people members of the learning community its unique professional
development and assesment system. Highlighting the authoring component
of IMMEX software, four students from Esperanza High School and their science
teacher, Elise Simpson, walked teachers, students, project directors, and
policy makers throught the nuts and bolts of IMMEX using paper prototypes and
online examples of problem-sets that they created last summer. Jessica
Eng, Jeff Salumbides, Jena Desai, and Mark Lin all participated in last year's
round of ETPDP workshops which are funded by the state of California and which
are administered through the California State University System. These
workshops pair teams of teachers with students to design web-delivered,
curriculum-oriented learning assesments across many disciplines and grade
levels. As IMMEX users and authors, these four dynamos, armed with
post-its and brochures, fielded a variety of questions from interested
attendees with the enthusiasm of their personal experiences. Check out
Solar System Settlers for a sample of the outstanding work that has been
created by IMMEX and these teams of students and teachers that was displayed
at this year's showcase.
