New Asthma Problem-Set Helps
Users Learn About the Condition
"Air Aware," one of two IMMEX problem-sets created for the asthma education
program of the same name - AIR AWARE - is now available over the web. Air
Aware is an asthma education program that encourages and educates parents and
children who live with asthma to become better caretakers of the illness.
Through multiple education activities both children and parents learn to adopt
successful asthma management strategies so that prevention and treatment of
attacks become a regular part of their lifestyle.
"Air Aware" challenges students and parents to access, interpret, and
synthesize multiple pieces of information that determine how they will manage
the asthma episodes described in multiple scenarios such as:
-
Indicate the status of the
asthma episode
-
Identify the asthma trigger
-
Present the environmental
conditions at the time of the episode
-
Offer choices of medicine for
treatment of an attack / call 911
"What's the Asthma Trigger?"
the second new problem-set to become available early next year, acquaints
students and parents with asthmas triggers and ways to avoid triggers that can
lead to an asthma episode.

Both sets come with a preview problem, an embedded dictionary featuring commonly
used asthma vocabulary. Both will soon be available to teachers, students,
and parents in Spanish.
